Sceptre Ministries
In the beginning
Sceptre Ministries was born out
of a cry for more of Jesus. In 1998, under the
prompting of Dr. Joyce Wallace, seven women met for
five days in a house in Blue Springs, Missouri, with
no other agenda than to hear from God. They prayed
and poured out their hearts before Him. They had no
idea that their lives would never be the same.
At the end of the three days, Dr.
Wallace knew God was taking her in a new direction. In
1999, she began hosting yearly three-day retreats in her
house for groups of six to seven women. She called these
retreats Friends of Esther Gatherings. The Gatherings
were based on the book of Esther. "Esther had seven
maidens, or friends, to prepare her to enter the king's
chamber," Dr. Wallace says. "Imagine how much
each of us would grow if we had seven friends who helped
us find the heart of our King."
Following the Lord
Joyce continued to follow the Lord's direction, and
He was faithful to bless the ministry. By 2000, it
became apparent that the ministry needed to a house
to host Gatherings and other events. In 2001, God
blessed the ministry with Esther's House, a
Victorian mansion in Butler, Missouri, about 40
miles south of Kansas City, Missouri. It soon became
clear to Joyce and her husband, John, that the
ministry needed to reach men as well as women. So in
April 2001, Sceptre Ministries International was
born. Praise the Lord!
Looking to the future
Today
Sceptre Ministries includes Friends of Esther and Men of
Mordecai, a ministry to men headed by John. The ministry
hosts five Friends of Esther Gatherings each year for
groups of eight women. Both Men of Mordecai and Friends
of Esther are staffed by an amazing, passionate group of
men and women who volunteer their time and talents. We
continue to seek the Lord for His direction in the
future. Please add us to your prayer list that we might
follow hard after Him!
